"Photographer Sandi Smith turns everyday scenes and objects — a butterfly or flowers in a field, flip flops on a sandy beach, dunes in Truro, a sunset, a rocking chair on a porch, fall foliage, or a starfish by the ocean — into works of art.
“Certain things catch my eye,” she said. “I like capturing the simple things in life.” A self-taught photographer, she displays and sells her work under the name “Photographs by Sandi” at Artisans in the Square, 63 South St. Smith, the co-op’s founder, lives in neighboring Weymouth.
Her photographs, still taken with a Nikon FE even in this digital age, adorn greeting cards and creative gift items of all kinds.
Since she always has her camera with her, it’s not unusual for Smith to pull off the road to take a photograph when she experiences a particularly beautiful sunset.
A feeling similar to the anticipation she feels during the Christmas season envelopes her once she gets the photos developed and sees the results.
Smith, who has found a niche all her own, particularly enjoys making greeting cards, which are suitable for framing."
